Regardless of which growth
forecast one picks for the industry, everyone
seems united on
the fact that data storage is in for a lot
of changes in the years ahead. To quote McKinsey
one more time:
“Current technologies, such
as server-attached storage, simply can’t
handle this rapid growth in the volume of
data and will soon be swept
aside.”
This is probably unsettling news for vendors
who currently own a major share of the
market like HP, IBM and EMC (see table above).
However, such entrenched vendors will
most likely be collaborating in the future
with (or acquiring – its already started!)
smaller, newer entrants with new storage solutions
and technologies. (Like
